Miss Rev: A Beloved Tradition
At Texas A&M University, few figures are as cherished as Reveille, lovingly known as Miss Rev. As the official mascot and the First Lady of Aggieland, she represents not only school spirit but also tradition, loyalty, and pride for the Aggie family.
A Tradition Born in 1931
The history of Reveille dates back to 1931, when a group of cadets found a small injured dog along the side of the road. They cared for her and brought her back to campus. That dog became the first Reveille, sparking a legacy that has endured for nearly a century.
Since then, each Reveille has been a purebred rough collie, embodying elegance, intelligence, and devotion. She is more than a mascot—she is a symbol of the Aggie core values of respect, loyalty, integrity, leadership, and selfless service. Reveille holds the highest rank in the Corps of Cadets—Five-Star General—and is always treated with the utmost honor.
Life as the First Lady of Aggieland
Miss Rev is cared for by a Mascot Corporal, a member of the Corps of Cadets, who accompanies her everywhere and ensures her needs are met. From Kyle Field on gameday to campus events, parades, and ceremonies, Reveille is always front and center, proudly representing Texas A&M.
She also has her own bed in the Mascot Corporal’s dorm room, attends classes, and is well known for her signature bark, which famously dismisses class. And yes—it really happens. One Aggie mama can confirm, after her daughter texted that class was dismissed when Miss Rev barked just ten minutes into the lecture.
The presence of Miss Rev creates a special bond across generations of Aggies—an unspoken reminder of the values and traditions that unite the Aggie family.

A Time of loss and Healing
The Aggie community is mourning the loss of Miss Reveille IX, who passed away in the early hours of September 27 due to complications from pneumonia. She faithfully served as the official mascot from May 2015 until her retirement in April 2021, leaving behind a legacy of grace and spirit that will never be forgotten.
And earlier this year, current mascot Miss Reveille X faced her own health challenge, undergoing eye surgery after a condition required medical attention. Thanks to the skilled veterinary team at Texas A&M’s own College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, her surgery was a success. The Aggie family rallied around her with prayers and well wishes, and she is now on the mend—back to her spirited self and ready to keep leading the way in Aggieland.
A Living Symbol of Spirit
From her humble beginnings to her current role as the face of Texas A&M, Miss Rev’s story is one of resilience, honor, and community. Her recent surgery reminds us that even legends need a little care sometimes, and the Aggie family always comes together to support their own.
As Reveille continues her recovery and returns to her duties, she stands as a living symbol of the Aggie Spirit—faithful, strong, and enduring.
